The South Western Water Conservation District oversees the water supply in South Western Colorado. Denver Water provides all of the District’s water needs. SWWD performs water tests on a weekly basis in South Western Colorado to check that the temperature and chlorine levels are within acceptable ranges. Denver Water is in charge of water treatment.
Denver Water asserts that the water supply is lawful and compliant with both federal and state regulations, and is safe to drink. However, different conclusions have been reached by independent and outside sources. They contend that just because water is drinkable does not necessarily mean it is secure.
South Western Colorado Water Contaminants
Numerous contaminants have been discovered in South Western Colorado’s water supply, including arsenic, bromodichloromethane, chloroform, dichloroacetic acid, haloacetic acids, radium, and trichloroacetic acid, according to a variety of sources, including independent, third-party studies.
Concerns have been raised in particular about lead contamination. The SWWD has previously been informed that there may have been lead service lines and galvanized main lines in some South Western Colorado neighborhoods. Since then, these lines have been changed.
